At the current stage of educating pupils with special needs, the problems of
development of their cognitive skills have gained great importance as they are aimed
at forming a socially adapted person who is ready for integration into modern society.
The development of cognitive skills of children with special educational needs in
inclusive system of education has certain individual characteristics and requires a
special organization of educational process.
The scientists consider the development of teaching aids for children with special
educational needs as a combination of peculiarities and possibilities of the child's
mental development with his/her tuition.
Modern Ukrainian pedagogy solves the problems of creating a favorable
educational environment for developing cognitive skills of children with special
educational needs, ensuring their individual and optimally possible trajectory of
development.
The use of information and communication technologies in remedial education is
based on researches of domestic and foreign scientists in the field of general pedagogy
(V.Bykov, R.Gurevych, A.Gurzhia, G.Yelnikova, M.Zhaldak, V. Lapinsky,
O.Liashenko , O.Ovcharuk, O.Spirin, R. Williams, G.Kleiman and others); on the
results of domestic research works on special pedagogy and psychology (B.Eisenberg,
A.Judilevich, O.Bilonozhko and others) and foreign scientists (Zh.Sago, D.Moores,
Strong Levitt H., S.Papert).
However, we should admit that works on teaching children with special
educational needs in inclusive educational environment, the possibilities of developing
their cognitive skills by means of information technologies have not been sufficiently
studied yet. In particular, we should carry out research into the subject of the impact of
educational computer programs on such cognitive processes as visual perception,
attention, visual memory and mental activity. Psychological and pedagogical
conditions promoting the development of cognitive skills of children with mental
problems by means of information technologies are not studied and determined at
sufficient level either [3].
Therefore, the relevance of the suggested research is determined by the
contradiction between the comprehension of the development of cognitive skills of
pupils with mental problems as an important task of teaching process as well as the
necessity for acquiring knowledge about the development of cognitive skills of special
category of children by means of applying information technologies in teaching
practice and the lack of their being researched. The mentioned contradiction helps to
determine the research problem, which is primarily aimed at studying the possibilities
of using information technologies for the development of cognitive skills of pupils with
