the questionnaire 72.3% of the schoolchildren wrote that information technologies had
not been used at all. 16.4 % of the schoolchildren pointed out that they had seldom
done exercises on the basis of the computer programmes at the lessons of the Ukrainian
language, it happened once or twice a year. Only 11.3% did it oftener – once or twice
a month. Answering the second question the pupils emphasized the fact that teachers
mainly offered electronic texts for reading and listening (79.2%), sometimes they gave
exercises with a grammar task (20.8%) and tasks of the searching character were not
used at all. Choosing a correct answer to the third question the younger schoolchildren
noted that they had not done electronic tasks using other information sources. 92.2%
of the respondents gave that answer, and 7.8% of the schoolchildren recollected that
they had done an exercise using a dictionary.
The results of the performed questionnaire showed that primary school teachers
ignored the information technologies. Besides we communicated with the primary
school teachers and learnt the reasons of the absence or rare usage of computer
teaching.
Among the reasons were the following: absence of the professionally designed
computer teaching programmes, insufficient level of mastering the methods of
individual creation of the electronic tasks, low providing of the classrooms with
modern computers, limited access to the Internet resources. This induced us to look for
the ways of solving these problems.
In the third quarter of 2017-2018 academic year we started experimental teaching
in two parallel forms (3-А and 3-B) in Cherkasy secondary school №20. 3-А was
defined a control form, and 3-B was an experimental form. The purpose of the
experiment is to check the efficiency of the offered teaching methods using information
technologies. According to the educational programme in the Ukrainian language for
the third form pupils it was necessary to learn the material about the parts of speech (a
noun, an adjective, and a verb). In the process of studying the material pupils are to
catch the general idea about the parts of speech, to understand the meaning of the words
belonging to these parts of speech, to know how nouns, adjectives and verbs change,
and to learn their main morphological traits. The control form pupils were taught by
means of the textbooks (the authors are М. S. Vashulenko, О. І. Мelnychaiko,
N. А. Vasylkivska), and special methods were created for the experimental form
pupils. For example, the younger schoolchildren of both forms got the same task – to
tell about winter entertainments during their holidays using the exercise in the textbook
(Ex. 259 p. 112) for the control form pupils and using computer presentation and
visualization (visuals of the children’s winter games: playing snowballs, tobogganing,
skating, skiing, making a snowman, singing carols). Winter themes images were
accompanied with audiomaterial: a number of poem extracts about winter were told
with the tune “Seasons. Winter.” by P. I. Tchaikovsky.
