code of the lyrics. The works of Yu.E. Plotnitskiy [5] have been observed since identity
of English songs; О.V. Morozova [6] has analysed lyrical texts as the English culture
phenomena.
Research results. Functional analysis of Eurodisco English lyric texts.
Peculiarity of personality. Agreeing with O.O. Khudyakov, we note that the category
of personality is an important structural syntactic category, which highlights the degree
of remoteness of the human consciousness of the referent of reality, the mental analog
of which (the concept) is formalized in the structure of the sentence in the subjective
function. From this understanding of its essence it turns out that the analysis of the
personal network can be carried out from the standpoint of the prototype theory, by
which it appears as a gradual category, which varies in a sufficiently wide range
between prototypical personal sentences and prototypical impersonal sentences. These
types represent the extreme points that limit the corresponding speech continuum [7,
p.192-193].
In the study of verbal means of expressing the Eurodisco ELT personal network,
two bonded entities were identified such as personal and impersonal models.
The personal model of the text covers all means that have a person’s attributes or
a reference to it [8, p. 17]. It transmits the system of relations between the participants
of communication – the speaker, the expedient and the listener, the recipient [9, p. 36].
At any level, this model explains one of its elements, indicating a person as a broadcast
[10, p. 221-228], among which personal and possessive pronouns, personal (finite)
forms of verbs, imperatives, and others are the most used. The cognitive function of a
personal model is to identify the speaker or character in the artistic space, as well as
the degree of remoteness from the person [8, p. 12-19].
The category of the voice, based on the opposition of the active and passive
principles in the speech activity of a man, includes the relation between the subject and
the verb-predicate, the direction of action, the active or inactive nature of the subject
itself [11, p. 554]. Classical definitions of the voice include categories of syntactic
(subjective, predicative, objective) and semantic (subject, object, action) levels.
The analysis of the ratio of voices allows us to speak about the absolute dominance
of the active voice in Eurodisco ELT, which is about 97% of the sentences. The passive
voice happens here rather as an exception:
Walk of life feels so nice
And here’s the perfect place …
Paradise can’t be nice
For you, if you can feel…
And you know you can’t be cheated of your life.
(Sandra “Mirror of love”)
This material clearly illustrates the rare use of passivity: you can’t be cheated.
