(Modern Talking “Brother Louie”)
Deviations from the prototype of such kind usually disclose a person who is the
object of the liking of the speaker, and therefore often represented by such personal
pronouns as she, he. There are rare instances of using the names of people Johnny,
Sarah and so on:
Just an ordinary day
An animal will pas away, oh on
Johnny wanna live
Who’s to say he got no rights?
Even not a right to life?
Don’t know why it leaves you cold
Don’t how to make it show, oh no
Johnny wanna live
Johnny wanna live
(Sandra “Johnny wanna live”)
There are also such subjects that are represented by nouns that denote different
types of plurality on the periphery of the sentences of the personal type: the plurality
of discrete objects, the internal plurality of non-discrete objects, plurality as mass,
quantity, continuation, the plurality of internal discrete classes, the plurality of
manifestation forms of various kinds of abstraction:
Good girls go to heaven
Good girls go to heaven
May be when the night will fall
Baby, the loneliness will call
Oh, call me, please, call me
Oh, your dreams will never lie
Just behind a painted smile
Just call me, please call me
(C.C. Catch “Good girls go to heaven – Bad girls go everywhere”)
From the given material it is possible to conclude as for the existence of several
different types of plurality of nouns within one Eurodisco ELT convergence.
The form of sentences, which is called generalized-personal is equidistant from
prototype personal and prototype impersonal sentences. Subjects of such sentences are
characterized by the fact that their preferential sphere is as wide as possible, and the
register of ways of expression, on the contrary, is rather narrow – these are all,
everybody, everyone, people, you, they, one [7, p.196-197]. Such sentences with the
subject you are widely distributed in Eurodisco ELT:
You are one in a million
You are one in a million
