Publishing their works in periodicals in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, the
Czech Republic and other countries, they transferred to Europe the latest scientific
developments and other innovative information. In addition to scientific ideas and
hypotheses, it was about acquainting the Western public with the real situation in the
Russian Empire, the progress of the economy, science, culture, with the achievements
of literature, music, art, and the struggle of the advanced forces of society for political
freedom. Scientific exchange, however, was not equivalent. Scientific and
technological innovations were mainly from the West to the East. By the turn of two
centuries, when Novorossiysk University was 35 years old, the results of
Europeanization were very palpable. This process of training and retraining of highly
qualified specialists in Western scientific centers, contributed to the rapid economic
development of Odessa. The penetration of Western influence through the university
channel was facilitated by the multinational composition of the urban population,
professors and students. In those days, a real professor easily found a place, at home or
abroad, the benefit of fluent in foreign languages. It was clear to everyone that without
constant updating of cadres and real competition progress in university life is
impossible [7, p. 38].
One of these professors was Evgeni Vladimirovich Vaskovskyi. In 1884, he
entered the law faculty of the Imperial Novorossiysk University, graduating in 1888
with a candidate's degree.
From 1888 to 1897 he served first as an assistant to a sworn attorney, and later as
a sworn attorney for civil affairs in Odessa [3, p. 70-73]. According to other sources,
he was not the jury of the district of the Odessa Judicial Chamber [4, p.97]. However,
he made a huge contribution to the development of the bar. His first significant
scientific work was the book "Organization of the Bar Association", which was
published in St. Petersburg in 1893, in two volumes. It was this scientific work of an
applied nature that he defended in the Imperial Kazan University in 1897 as a master's
thesis. In addition, in the 90-ies. XIX century. was published a number of scientific
works of EV Vaskovskyi: "Textbook of civil law" (two issues, 1894-1896 gg.); book
"The main issues of advocacy ethics" (1895); a number of articles in the Journal of the
Ministry of Justice and the Journal of the St. Petersburg Juridical Society (1894-1895).
