solution, because the family is the first factor in the socialization of the child; it depends
on what our future and our society are. An analysis of current legislation in Ukraine
leads to the conclusion that families that violate the rights of their members and human
rights are violated, and the legal norms of society are violated.
V.M. Shahrai divides disadvantaged families into three groups:
- preventive – families in which problems have a negligible manifestation and are
at an initial stage of disadvantage;
- families in which social and other contradictions exacerbate the interactions of
family members with each other and the environment to a critical level;
- families that have lost all life perspective, inertly set to their destiny and the fate
of their own children [2].
Family disadvantage is considered by criminologists as one of the most influential
factors in juvenile delinquency. So V.G. Likholob distinguishes three groups of
negative factors in the field of family education: long neglect, lack of control over the
way of life of minors, which led to early independence and arbitrariness; excessive care
and severity of parents who led to sharp protests by juveniles; conflict family
circumstances that give rise to juvenile aggression and unbalance [3].
Our research reveals another factor that significantly affects the juvenile
delinquency – this is the indifference of parents towards their children. It is the
indifferent attitude of their parents to themselves identified 54% of convicted minors.
Consequently, the concept of “family disadvantage” covers a set of features that
express the essence of the object being investigated and to solve certain problems,
realize the functions of achieving specific theoretical and practical goals in preventing
juvenile delinquency. Among the main features that contribute to the emergence of
various kinds of disadvantages can be identified: the existence of permanent conflicts
in the family, both between parents and children, and between the spouses and the
unfavorable climate of relations; absence of one of the parents; immoral or asocial
behavior of parents; insufficient material security of the family; pedagogical illiteracy
of parents; unfavorable psychological peculiarities of parents (presence of pronounced
character accentuations, neurotic manifestations, internal conflict, etc.).
Despite the fact that criminological research shows that the link of family
relationships and crime can not be described clearly with the sign “plus” or “minus”
[4]. However, the poll showed that juvenile convicts believe that it is parents who are
guilty of committing a crime – 61.5%; guilty themselves – 22%; guilty friends – 16.5%.
Before starting a detailed analysis of the impact of various elements of family
disadvantage on juvenile delinquency, it should be noted that in a social sense the
family is a family that does not fulfill the functions that determine the existence in the
community of the given population of people – in full or in part in particular.
