In fact, today the slang word fashionista is most commonly used in speech. It describes
a woman who buys only designer apparel and accessories, watches over fashion very
closely and becomes a hostage of the fashion. Often, relative to such a fashionista
people use the expression with a pronounced negative evaluation fashion-crazy, that
is, «a woman who is obsessed with the fashion».
In complex word combinations that mean a noun with such a tint of the meaning
where the main lexeme is fashion, the following notions are encountered:
Fashion-plate – «a person who dresses in the latest fashion», «an illustration of
a clothing style» [11]. The term fashion plate is often used in a disapproving way to
describe someone who cares too much about fashion.
Fashion-queen – «a woman who dresses in the latest fashion» [11]. This word
emphasizes the division by gender.
A queen is defined as a girl who is very important
or successful at something. An example of a queen is someone successful at fashion,
the queen of fashion.
Fashion fiend – «a person who is extremely addicted to fashion» [11].
Fashion victim – «a person who always wears the newest fashions if they do not
suit him or her».
Fashion-monger – «one that studies, imitates and sets the fashion» [11]. This
word is often used relative to a person who
advises people fashionable clothing
(fashion consultant).
Fashion arbiter – «someone who popularizes a new fashion».
Fashion goods – «commerce things such as clothes and shoes that retailers have
to change often because the styles often change» [12].
Modern English dictionaries contain a vocabulary article about the word
combination fashion house, which means «a company that designs and sells new styles
of clothes, shoes, bags, etc., especially expensive ones» [12]. A fashion house is a
company like Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada or Burberry, that is concerning high
fashion. They are fashion brands and they usually specialize in expensive, luxury
clothing and other products (like cosmetics, perfume, or shoes). They have been in
business for decades – some for over 100 years – and they have usually have changed
several fashion designers throughout their history. They design and make clothing to
sell in their own stores or boutiques and department stores. Fashion designers showcase
their collections during a fashion week (a fashion industry event, lasting approximately
one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or «houses» to display their latest
collections in runway shows). It is a week packed full of fashion shows. In February
and March, designers showcase their fall / winter collections; in September and
October they showcase their spring / summer collections (for the following year). This
is a huge event in the fashion industry because it is the first time fashion magazine
editors, critics, buyers (the people who decide what to sell in stores), and the public
