The analysis of English explanatory dictionaries has shown that the lexeme fashion has
the most general meaning. According to the dictionaries, fashion has the following
definitions: a popular or the latest style of clothing, hair, decoration or behavior at a
particular time, especially in clothes, hair, make-up; a way of doing things; business or
study of making and selling clothes, shoes, etc in new and changing styles. The analysis
of the definitions has proved that fashion is an indicator of the relationship of the
society to the elements of appearance, manner of dressing, style, behavior, values. The
time period (particular time) is also important for determining the phenomenon of the
fashion. It is found out that the fashion is rather fleeting and is characterized by rapid
variability.
