ETHICAL AND SPIRITUAL MATURITY OF THE AUTHOR
AND THE CHARACTERS IN DRAMATURGY
OF V.
VYNNYCHENKO DURING 1918-1930
Introduction. V.
Vynnychenko’s dramaturgy is very complex phenomenon
from
different points of view: firstly in terms of the evolution of the political and ideological
position of the author and secondly in terms of time and features of the process of its
creation and especially – in terms of ethical maturity of the playwright. The complexity
and the variability of political and ideological views of V. Vynnychenko still remain
notorious. In general, M. Zerov, P. Khrystyuk and V. Panchenko are devided
V. Vynnychenko’s works into three periods: to the first period, they include works
from 1902 to 1908 («from his first performance to the drama «Disharmony», «The
Shaft of Life», «The Great Moloch», etc. [12, 440]); to the second one – works from
1908 to 1920; to the third one is collected works from 1920 to 1951. Researchers
explain this division mainly by «changing methods of writing» [12]; Moreover,
P. Khrystyuk designates the beginning of V. Vynnychenko’s work as «youthful»
(before the revolution of 1905 and during the revolution), and the next (from 1907 to
1910) is «dominant», because «Vynnychenko is no longer satisfied with the narrative
stories and widely used the dramatic forms» [28, 149-150], and according to
P. Khrystyuk, the third period of V.
Vynnychenko’s creativity (from 1911 to 1912) is
dedicated to the «novel» [28, 150]. H. Kostyuk considers the progress and the peak of
Vynnychenko’s skill as the basis for the periodization of the creative activity of the
author (also – as a playwright [14]), and therefore he distinguishes both «violent
political» years, and «lost in relation to literary work» (1917-1920) and «post-
revolutionary emigration», etc. [14, 178].
O. Vekua [2] and A.
Matyushchenko [16]
determine V. Vynnychenko’s drama during the period of 1906-1910 as «significant
influence» of the philosophy of F. Nietzsche. V. Kharkhun calls the period during these
years (1906-1916) as the «period of drama and socio-psychological novel» [26, 119-
120]. There are other statements on this issue, but the time of writing dramatic works
remained uncertain. The only thing that is common here is that by the early 1930s,
V. Vynnychenko noticed and embodied the main aspects and factors of the complex
