on the roof and bring sparrows» [3, 33]), and over lack of will of her teacher «You
have to give yourself everything to burn for me» [3, 15]; then she annoys everyone
with fictions («I will live here as I want. <...> I will take the territories from the
landlords, and then I will take and get married to the cooperator» [3, 36]). All this
simply could not have a clear focus on either good or evil – a game, which, according
to V
.
Humenyuk, Mara «overcomes her own stereotypical notions» [11, 239] about life
in general. In fact, every minute, Mara overcomes the
deep-seated fear of a real life, in
the long run attracts Sribnyy – the fighter for the fairness. But in the end, it turns out
that in order to save her chosen one Mara is ready to arrest her own father, who, in her
opinion, «outdated»
and still rescues her own skin through the illegal sale of lands:
«Now then, you can take my horse, a revolver, run after and arrest him. And I'm no
longer their daughter» [3, 75], – Mara says.
And here it is already visible and quite
clear ethical certainty of her actions – the instinct of love takes over the love for her
father.
Moreover, exactly these feelings make Mara able to overcome her fears and
become an active participant in social movements. In this way, V. Vynnychenko in the
play «Panna Mara» ridiculed not only the outdated bourgeois way of life, but also the
very desire of this caste to preserve their social status. It is possible therefore, the author
considered «Panna Mara» «silly play», as it was a «reproduction» of what was more in
everyday life. This work could have appeared not from the pen of a strong and ethically
confident artist, this one is the fruit of the creativity of such a mighty man who for the
first time who first got into a state of uncertainty of choice and indistinct reflections.
The play «Between Two Forces» is a frank and at the same time a clear contrast
to the ideas of good and evil. The political confrontation in society really predetermines
the mutual aggressiveness and loathing between the members of the Slipchenkos
family.
Particularly, Mykyta Ivanovych believes in the possibility of gaining
independence of Ukraine. For the sake of this idea, he is able to banish his son Tikhon
from the house, as he considers him a betrayer: «There were no traitors in my family
and there will not be! Get away»[8, 529]. Moreover, he is ready to exterminate the
whole generation of sons
«Hang them up» [8, 540]. National bigotry of this man
transforms his original intentions to do good deeds in the bloody contradictions: «
I
curse you with my father’s immortal curse. I will shoot the betrayers with my old arm,
the fratricidal enemies and the enemies of my nation» – he shouted angrily instead of
saying convincing appeals to the children. However, when the turn came to his
daughter, Slipchenko hesitated. That is why he asks for the advice in his like-minded
people: «Well, what should I do with her?» [

, 575]. At
first, the father offered Sofia to renounce «former Bolsheviks friends» [8, 577] and he
is ready to «give his gray hair for derision and cry for a daughter» [8, 577]. But when
this case of saving daughter ended with her death, it became clear that Slipchenko’s
fanatical and patriotic intentions were not only terrible, but also it became a
