Moreover, when Nadiya speaks with Ilko, she calls on him to a large-scale creation of
goodness:
«
Put yourself in the making of the future» [4, 55]. After all, in her opinion,
only in this way, Ilko can win the trust of people and not «be a button». He concludes
under the influence of her beliefs that she is his «true violin!» [4, 72]. And yet she
breaks with Ilko – she no longer wants to «call» his «violin», and his «creative forces»;
only when he begins to do it himself, they «will give great values to you and to the
public cause» [4, 68]. A woman tries to bring him with Donya together so that he
becomes independent, as she considers her «a valuable girl ...», «with a violin» [4, 72].
But then comes the moment, when good intentions across the boundaries of elemental
sense – she consciously destroys not only her own life, but also the life of her lover.
Since then, she has become «insincere!» [4, 77]. So, according to Ilko, she stopped
working at the collective farm and decided to promote evil; she despises the servants,
takes the same position with Hrytsenkom and Varvara; takes a bribe from the hands of
Smilyanskyy. And when the woman finally convinced that holding back Ilko («You
are convinced ... by me» [39, 67]), she sacrifices her feelings to her own husband,
because she saw evil in them not only for Ilko, but also for herself. Thus, the altruistic
desire of Nadiya (at the cost of his own life) to help Ilko revive deliberately destroys
both her own life and the authority of this woman in the community. And even the rigid
characterization of her behavior by an ex-lover could not stop her: «You're
decomposing! You stink! ‹...› You are a death walker» [4, 104]; «You cause only
painful regret and disgust » [4, 105]. But the woman from these words becomes even
more confident for Ilko – she can rejoice for the happiness of others. She is satisfied
that the beloved becomes stronger: «I am so powerful» [4, 94], and therefore
consciously («taking papers from the briefcase <...> and hiding them under the sofa»
[4, 100]) continues to direct her activities to charity and again, hides the material
evidence, and saves him. But soon she is convinced that he not only was not able to
understand her intentions («And why did you give that respect and love?!») [4, 105],
but also sees in him a completely different and cruel person: «My husband, my friend
– why do you scold me, laugh and mock me?» [4, 106]. And then, guided by one of
her principles, she gradually changes to a person who does good things even in relation
to Ilko – Nadiya achieves her ultimate goal and saves a lover from both death the
political and the spiritual. Nadiya’s sister Varvara «is seriously in love» [4, 7] with
Ilko. Under the influence of her feelings on this man, she deliberately tries to refute
Ilko from the sister, and directs her activities for evil: «Instead of helping your sister to
tie this Buffalo, you using me and brings him to rage» [4, 17], – Nadiya characterizes.
Thus, V. Vynnychenko in the play «Nad» showed the high sacrifice of Nadiya,
who is capable of creating good deeds for the sake of reviving the meaning of the life
of a lover. Ilko, by contrast, in the course of his activity gradually comprehends the
role of good and evil in life.
