GENETIC FUND OF THE GENUS VIGNA SAVI AND IDENTIFICATION OF
DONOR SOURCES BY MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND
DURATION OF THE GROWING SEASON
Introduction. In solving the problem of sources of the vegetable protein in the
present, the leguminous crops occupy an important place, because in many
characteristics these plants exceed other crops and represent theoretical and practical
interest. The increased attention to them is connected with the possibility of a
comprehensive solution to a number of issues: prevention of protein deficiency in the
diet, improvement of the livestock feed base, improvement of soil fertility due to
fixation of the biological nitrogen, etc. In this regard, along with the traditional legume
crops, it is necessary to use the gene pool of the rare or non-traditional ones that will
contribute to the creation of the combinational variability in obtaining new hybrid
forms of plants. The problem of the conservation and use of the plant genetic diversity
is relevant and important in terms of food security.
The potential opportunities for this are represented by species of the genus Vigna
Savi, the potential of which in our country is not studied. In our time, the
representatives of the genus are quite widespread in the tropical, subtropical and
temperate regions of the south. The gene pool of the plants has a hidden resource of
new genes, or their combinations, including selective-important signs. The study of the
potential of the plant gene pool on the basis of the basic biological and economic
features allows to expand the genetic crop of cultures for the successful implementation
of the breeding programs of different directions.
The comprehensive assessment of the genetic fund of the genus Vigna Savi,
allocation of the sources of donor morphological features, selection of valuable initial
forms for the creation of new high-yield hybrids and varieties adapted to the ecological
conditions of the region. In the conditions of the eastern forest-steppe of Ukraine, the
introduction of the collection of the genus Vigna Savi, which consisted of 5 different
