which in his opinion belong [8]: formation of groups, establishment and maintenance
of their normative and physical boundaries; establishment and support of a relatively
stable structure of intragroup and intergroup relations; adaptation of individuals and
social groups to changing environmental conditions; creation and balance of social
forces; receiving information about the surrounding social environment (signaling
about certain problems in relations with others); stimulating rulemaking and social
control; creation of new social institutions.
Another American sociologist R. Dahrendorf [9] considers the conflict as a
universal stimulating factor for development, which contributes to the socio-economic
development of society and is subject to rational institutional regulation. This
theoretical assumption is a confirmation of the appropriateness of coordination and
organization of the process of conflict, with a view to its effective solution. The concept
of social dialogue is precisely the instrument that allows the conflict to be directed in
a constructive way, improving the system of existing economic relations and inhibiting
the processes of socio-economic exclusion.
An overview of conducted studies and publications gives grounds to state that
insufficiently substantiated remain issues related to the identification of the impact of
socio-economic changes on the level of conflict in society, the factors of this influence,
the forms of manifestation and patterns of socio-economic tension in the dynamics, as
well as with the measurement the scale of socio-economic tension, and the impact on
it of the processes of globalization. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a thorough
study of the socio-economic tension and the impact of social change on democratic
transformations in society.
The methodology of the research is based on the methods of correlation-
regression analysis – for diagnosing the standard of living of the population, taking into
account the regional specificity; logical-heuristic - to substantiate the processes of
exclusion of the average society and their economic consequences; economics and
mathematics - to identify the interdependence between the needs of the population of
different regions; modeling – for diagnosing the welfare of the population, taking into
account the emerging effect of socio-economic exclusion.
The purpose of this study is to find new methods for resolving socio-economic
tensions that will contribute to solving and eliminating conflict situations in the context
of transformational transformations in Ukrainian society by identifying effective socio-
economic indicators for diagnosing welfare of the population based on the application
of a multilevel approach. Such an approach provides an opportunity to build a multi-
level system for diagnosing the well-being of the population, to compare the results of
the index of human development of Ukraine with the indices of other states, as well as
to identify ways to improve the well-being of the Ukrainian population on the basis of
elimination of the factors of exclusion.
