Sociological research that periodically examines the current state of socio-
economic tension in Ukrainian society does not cover the iridescent picture, which, on
the one hand, confirms the above-stated laws of development, on the other hand,
demonstrates the negative trends that have emerged in Ukrainian society in accordance
with the presented laws.
In July 2017, the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of
Ukraine together with the Charitable Fund "Intellectual Perspective" conducted a
sociological survey "Social tension and protest activity". In the study, 1800 people,
except for the Crimean peninsula, and parts of the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts, which
are now uncontrolled to Ukraine, took 1800 people. The probability of error does not
exceed 2.3%, so the results can be considered reliable.
Ukrainian analysts, after examining the results of the study, and comparing them
with the concept of the pyramid of A. Masloy's needs, argue that the problem of social
tension arises from dissatisfaction with elementary human needs [25]. In particular,
almost 90% of respondents, showed dissatisfaction with their own primary needs of
the first level (availability of places of residence, food products). The lack of basic
living conditions for most of the population is already a significant cause of social
tension. The second level of needs - the need for security - for almost 70% of the
respondents also not implemented due to the presence of hostilities in the East. More
than half of the population (57%) are dissatisfied with the political situation, and almost
a third considers it critical, with 68% of respondents believe in positive changes after
the elections. Almost half of the respondents are concerned with the problems of
employment (48%) and the increase of tariffs for housing and communal services
(46%), which leads to impoverishment of their family. However, only one fifth (21%)
openly speaks of willingness to take part in protest actions: on the one hand, it is good,
the level of probability of a social explosion in a society decreases; on the other hand,
this means that the majority of dissatisfied with their own lives will seek to meet their
own needs in the sector of the informal (shadow) economy, or even outside Ukraine.
Statistical interpretation of the system of indexes of population welfare
diagnostics. The results of the analysis of market sources of income, the artificial
lowering of labor costs and the high share of social transfers of the population of
Ukraine remain at the level of poverty according to European standards. The welfare
of the population in Ukraine for 2015-2016 was influenced by a sufficient number of
socio-economic indicators. Ukraine's GDP for the first quarter of 2016 compared to the
first quarter of 2015 amounted to 82.4%, and compared with the fourth quarter of 2015,
taking into account the seasonal factor – 93.5%. In January-April 2016, industrial
output declined by 21.5%, the consumer price index was 137.1%, and the annual
