Such a picture is unlikely to contribute to changes in the mood and attitude of the
population of the East of Ukraine to eliminating the socio-economic tension in these
territories. Therefore, it is not surprising that the population living in uncontrolled and
even controlled areas of Ukraine in the East continues to assert at the end of 2017 that
the main causes of such tensions remain [31, p. 22]: population depletion - 60% of
respondents from the Donetsk oblast who live in controlled areas of Ukraine and 81%
of those polled in the occupied territories indicated this; low standards of living - 53%
and 40% of respondents in these areas indicated accordingly. And, as a result, the
unresolved major problems gave rise to the freezing of the conflict, as indicated by
respectively 20% and 35% of the respondents.
The results of the sociological survey are also confirmed by official statistics.
More than half of the population of the country is below the poverty line table 7.

Significant deterioration is observed in 2015, followed by 2016 has almost not
changed the situation for the better. In 2015, compared with 2014, in general, in
Ukraine, the share of the population below the poverty line has more than tripled and
accounts for more than half of the country's population. In the section of regions, the
Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Kirovograd, Lugansk, Lviv, Mykolaiv,
Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkassy and Chernivtsi
regions crossed the threshold by 50%. The remaining areas were also on the verge with
an average of 40-45%. In 2016, the value of this indicator practically did not change,
even in some regions it even worsened, in particular among such Dnipropetrovsk
(53.9% vs. 51.6% in 2015), Zaporizhzhya (55.1% compared to 44% in 2015),
