In Ukraine, the consumption of organic products per capita is significantly lower
than the one in the EU, and is 0.5 euros. For comparison, an ordinary
European/Ukrainian spends 40.8 Euros per year on organic products, and an EU
resident spends 60.5 euros. Switzerland is the country, where people spend the most
money on organic food in − 274 Euros. At this, the popularity of organic agricultural
products at the markets of developed countries is growing rapidly and now the demand
for organic products in the EU is much higher than supply. The foreign organic
producers are not able to fully meet the demand of the consumers in quantity and in
assortment. Such conditions, along with favorable soil and climatic conditions as well
as favorable geographical location, open wide opportunities for Ukraine to increase the
production of organic food products, increase the volume and expansion of territory of
export, the volume of which in 2016 was estimated at 50 million Euros. The largest
countries, which are consumers of Ukrainian “organic products” are Netherlands,
Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic,
Bulgaria, Hungary, USA, Canada, Australia and some Asian countries. The main
export products are grains, oilseeds, legumes, berries, fruits and wild plants.
Ukraine exports also processed organic products, among them there are grains,
flakes, juices, jams, syrups, oil, flour, canned vegetables and the like. Especially
popular among consumers are cereal flakes, which belong to food concentrates for dry
breakfasts. In particular, preference is often given to oat flakes, which are characterized
by high marketability, are well absorbed and used for dietary nutrition. Their properties
are directly dependent on raw materials, that is, oats, which contains proteins,
carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins. The usefulness of organic flakes for the human body
is confirmed by the fact that they are made of organic oats. Besides that flakes can be
quickly prepared, which makes this food even more attractive to the consumer.
