people from Ukraine studied in Sorbonne. Such cooperation continued in the fifteenth
and sixteenth centuries, when the facts of the training of representatives were recorded
«nation Ruthenia de Ukraina». It is education that becomes the foundation for further
economic and political cooperation between Ukraine and France. In particular, in the
years 1643-1645, the Sorbonne had been studying Ivan Uzhevich - the author of the
Slavic grammar that was published in Europe in Latin. During this historical period,
many Ukrainians study at the universities of Strasbourg. Thus, through education and
science, it is possible to maintain close Ukrainian-French relations in various spheres
of activity. Of particular relevance, such cooperation takes place during the period of
functioning of such a state formation as the Zaporizhzhya Sich. It is the Ukrainian
Cossacks, in close alliance with the European peoples, who defended not only the
principles and values but also the very existence of Western civilization in a tough
struggle. Europe assisted Ukraine in training highly skilled specialists in various fields,
and Ukraine is a reliable defense of the western civilization space. Suffice it to recall
that the French engineer Guillaume Lavasser de Boplan carried out the first detailed
description of the Cossack state in 1631-1647. In turn, the Ukrainian Cossacks for a
long time served on the French King [20, p.331-332].
Ukraine's presence in the Russian Empire and the USSR practically made it
impossible for any parity relations not only with France but also with all European
countries. In fact, for a long historical period, Ukraine is in the wake of the economic
and political interests of these state formations. Although, even in this perspective,
there were interactions on the personal level that gave the world wonderful stories.
What is only relevant in this aspect is the history of the relationship between Honore
de Balzac and Evelina Ganska.
During the short historical period of the restoration of Ukrainian statehood in
1917-1921 attempts were made to establish mutual partner relations between Ukraine
and France. Even diplomatic relations were established, but they were chaotic and
short-lived.
Only with the achievement of Ukraine's independence in 1991, Ukraine and
European states establish a full-fledged political, economic and cultural relationship.
On January 24, 1992, full diplomatic relations were established between France and
Ukraine. The agreement on mutual assistance and cooperation between the countries
was signed in Paris in June 1994, and on December 5, 1994, the Declaration on the
guarantee of security of Ukraine was signed by France. In fact, these documents formed
the basis for the further development of partnership relations between countries. At the
same time, sometimes Ukraine's uncertainty in the strategic direction of development
did not contribute to equal parity cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in general,
Ukraine, and France in particular. Thus, France has become rather skeptical of
Ukraine's membership in NATO and the EU. However, it is Ukraine's membership in
