Figure 1. Interconnection of levels and sections of knowledge about
clothes/costumes in the fashion area: FS – figurative-stylistic section; SS – semantic-
symbolic section; diagonal AB – informative section
Point B appears at the intersection of functional and constructive and
technological levels with semantic-symbolic and informative sections, which, at first
glance, seems strange. However, according to T. Bystrova [1], in modern science, such
combinations have become relevant as “hybrid studies.” They are open to the use of
conceptual ideas and analytical approaches for various areas of scientific knowledge,
non-specific for research in the previous periods: non-linear logic, information and
communication theory [2], narratology [3], theory of comfort [4], etc. Such hybridism
is inherent in modern research of objects of design-activity. This is confirmed by the
design definitions that have been published by scientists recently:
Design is a professional type of design and artistic activity in creating
aesthetically-harmonious and functional-complete subject-information environment.
O. Boichuk [5].
Design is a communicative practice of designing a sign product that can create a
situation of impression. H. Lola [6].
The above definitions are coherent with the definition of a costume as an object
of design, which the author of the publication formulated in her dissertation paper: a
