Novorossiysk University to prepare for a professorship at the Roman Law Chair from
February 1891 to August 1893 [3, c . 92]. From 1905 to 1908 he became the first
Chairman of the Board of Sworn Attorneys of the Odessa Judicial Chamber. He was a
deputy of the Second and Third State Duma. By right, his colleagues called Odessa
Zlatoust for brilliant oratory skills [4, p. 40].
Among the disciplines that were read at the Faculty of Law of the Imperial
Novorossiysk University were: History of Slavic legislation; Russian civilian judicial
system and legal proceedings; Church right (canon law); Encyclopedia of legal and
political sciences (the current equivalent of the theory of law and the state);
Encyclopedia of jurisprudence; Encyclopedia and History of Philosophy of Law; State
law; Civil law and legal proceedings; Criminal law and criminal justice; Administrative
law; Police law; Financial right; Commercial law and commercial litigation;
International law; Political economy and statistics; Forensic Medicine; Forensic
psychiatry; Commodity analysis. By analyzing the list of subjects that were studied at

had a master's or doctor's degree and also passed a practical examination in court [5].
In the Imperial Novorossiysk University there was a practice of sharing foreign

opportunity to visit for research purposes the leading Western educational institutions
of the time.
So the outstanding Odessa European, archaeologist and Byzantinist F.I. Uspensky
expresses admiration for the establishment of higher education: "The University of
Berlin for many reasons attracts special attention pursuing historical tasks. The
Prussian Ministry of Public Education seeks to unite in Berlin the largest
representatives in various branches of knowledge. " Professors are attracted not only
