On the basis of the foregoing, one can state the goal of research, which consists
in analyzing and developing the functions of royal privileges in order to find out the
purpose of their creation and understanding their role in society. In the context of
historical-archival and historical-source studies, determine the information potential of
the privileges created by the Jagiellonian dynasty in terms of defensive capacity of the
city of Lviv. To achieve the goal, one should accomplish the following tasks:
-
analyze available studies in the field of Lviv's defense capabilities;
-
conduct analysis of scientific papers on research of the studies of the
document functions;
-
analyze the privileges created by the Jagiellonian dynasty;
-
carryout thefunctional analysis of royal privileges.
Historiography, sources and methods of research. The work by Dionysius
Zubrzycki, which contains a sequential analysis of events in Lviv from the fourteenth
to the eighteens centuries, made a significant contribution to the study of the topic. The
Lviv historian of the nineteenth century A. Cholovsky also analyzed the study of the
defense capacity of Lviv's fortifications on the basis of documents. The result of work
with these documents was a series of works by the Polish researcher W. Tomkiewicz,
in particular, his most important work is "Dzieje obwarowaĊ miejskich Lwowa ". To
date, the privileges of the city of Lviv have been published in the form of a separate
publication, prepared and arranged by M. Kapral, Y. Dashkevych and R. Shust [1,
p.104].
A special place in the research occupies the study of functions. It has been proved
that determination of the document functions took place in the process of expanding
its interpretation and scope of application by many Ukrainian and foreign scientists,
namely V. Banasiukevych, M. Iliushenko, V. Kashepov, S. Kuleshov,
N. Kushnarenko, M. Larkov, K. Mitiaiev, Y. Pleshkevych, A. Sokova, V. Strelskyi,
H. Shvetsova-Vodka, who determined the main, general and special functions of
documents. A considerable number of scientific papers on the setting the theoretical
foundations on the issues of studying the functions and classifications of the document
was performed by S. Kuleshov. The establishment of dependence of the concept of
"document" and the development of the document functions was first implemented by
K. Mitiaiev. A thorough study of the classification of the document functions was also
made by M. Iliushenko, where the classification takes place from the standpoint of the
complexity of the document functions. That is, all documents perform several
functions, rather than just one clearly allocated function. According to M. Iliushenko,
the document is polyfunctional, where one document can combine different functions
and they can be singled out only in the conditional and theoretical terms, which gives
the possibility of convenient classification and analysis. The classification depends on
certain criteria according to which it is carried out, so it is valuable that, while studying
