This group of privileges includes privileges-exemptions from participation in
military campaigns (privilege-liberation from the Moldavian campaign of Sigismund I
in 1509) [7, p. 168
–169].
Granting by the king of the city the right to collect certain taxes was also an
important achievement of the citizens of Lviv. The King Aleksander Jagiellończyk
granted Lviv the right to collect the bridge duty in 1506 in connection with the fact that
at that time all thecity’s money was allocated for the repair and erection of new
fortifications, while the nearby roads, for the repair of which the tax was intended, were
in miserable condition [7, p. 164
–166].
Other royal privileges warned that the nobles or clergy can not inherit city estates.
The main motive for such a document again was to provide control over urban
development. The royal authority did not have such a strong influence on the private
estates of thenobles and the property of the clergy as the property of the townspeople.
Therefore, it was not possible to influence the nobleman who did not care about the
proper condition of the development of his plot in the city, which could belong at the
same time to the complex of city fortifications.
King Sigismund I the Old, like his predecessors, continued the policy of reducing
tax pressure on the people of Lviv in order to accelerate the construction and erection
of urban fortifications. Among other things, the attention is drawn to the King's
privilege granted on February 17, 1525, according to which Sigismund allowed the
burgomaster and Lviv municipal councilors to collect at the time hostile attacks a
półgroszor nine denarii from each cart of visitants in order to restore the order, rebuild
and strengthen the city [7, p. 185
–188]. The motive for granting the privilege was that
at the time of the military threat, in particular, the Tatar attacks, Lviv became a haven
for people from nearby villages and towns and refugees from the neighboring regions,
