Faster technology, access to online information, and exponential
growth
of knowledge trigger
the need
to explore
new pedagogical
approaches for helping students navigate and select sources of
reliable information.

The importance of the research problem of scientific research activation as the
innovative regulator of quality improvement of professional training of students is
attributable to the sociocultural tendencies of the society development in the context of
globalization, information, new tendencies appearing; strategical orientation of higher
education establishment in the context of educational paradigm changing (from the
education for the whole life, to the education during the whole life), and the growth of
significance of independent active cognitive activity of each student; the growth of
requirements of employers, who search for the specialists of different levels of
education and qualification, who have well developed searching skills, who are able to
grasp actively all new technologies and technical systems, to acquire independently
new professional skills and abilities, to solve successfully the problems of innovative
development; the need student as a consumer of educational facilities, which in future
will be the initiator of innovations, the main carrier and expert of the quality of the
obtained education, the essential agent, the propulsive innovation in science, technic,
economics, politics, spiritual culture in the conditions of globalization. [4]
The aim of this article is to define the main components of scientific research, the
structure of scientific research, the role of research skills development in language
teacher’s professional activity and the way to develop the research skills of students in
practice.
Research results. Scientific research activity of future language teachers.
Scientific investigation is a holistic approach to learning science through practical
work. [9]
Millar (2010) has defined research as: “Practical activity in which students are
not given a complete set of instructions to follow (a recipe‖), but have some freedom
to choose the procedures to follow, and to decide how to record, analyse and report the
data collected. They may also (though this will not be taken as a defining characteristic)
have some freedom to choose the question to be addressed and/or the final conclusion
to be drawn. Like experiments, investigations are a sub-set of practical work.” [p. 2, 5]
Scientific research of students of higher education establishment is one of the
directions of their independent work, a crucial factor of the well-qualified specialists’
training.
Scientific research activity embraces two aspects:
a)
students’ studies about the elements of research activity,
organization and methodology of scientific creativity;
b)
scientific research activities under the control of the faculty teachers.
